One of the world’s finest inventors, Nikola Tesla, was born on July 10, 1856 in Croatia.
Tesla's mother, Djouka Mandich, developed household appliances in her spare time.
“My Mother was an inventor… [she has] achieved great things… She invented and constructed all kinds of tool and devices and wove the finest designs from thread which was spun by her. She even planted seeds, raised the plants and separated the fibers herself." - Nikola Tesla's Complete Autobiography |
Tesla suffered from a peculiar affliction during childhood. He could see pictures in his head.
"In my boyhood[,] I suffered from a peculiar affliction due to the appearance of images, often accompanies by strong flashes of light, which marred the sight of real objects and interfered with my thoughts and action. They were pictures of things and scenes which I had really seen, never of those imagined." - Nikola Tesla's Complete Autobiography |
When Tesla turned seventeen, the images that made him suffer became machines that he could visualize.
"When I got an idea, I start at once building it up in my imagination. I change the construction make improvements and operate the device in my mind. It is absolutely immaterial to me whether I run my turbine in thought or test it in my shop. I even note if it is out of balance." -Nikola Tesla's Complete Autobiography |
